Headset and Game Version

I play Beatsaber on the Oculus Quest 2, on both the Steam and Oculus versions interchangeably. I have been leaning more towards the Steam version since I started streaming, but playing the Steam version does mean I need to plug into my PC though. (That is, if I don't want to deal with horrible input delay using a wireless connection)

I have been liking the Steam version more though for three main reasons:

Thoughts on PSVR Beat Saber

I actually first started playing Beat Saber on PSVR. Of course, I was aware of some of the issues with it as I played: my controller wandering away mid level, the noticeable inaccuracy in many swings, the complete lack of online mode or mods, etc. What I didn't realize was just how much it was limiting my overall play level. Immediately after switching to Quest I saw a spike in my overall performance and I have been on a steady trend upwards ever since. I highly recommend to anyone playing Beat Saber on PSVR who wants to take their gameplay to the next level: (if it's an option for you) invest in a headset better suited for playing Beat Saber.

Headstarp

The headstrap I use on my Oculus is called the BOBOVR M2 Plus. The version I got came with two hot swappable batteries and a charging station capable of charging both. This allows you to swap them out when one dies while always having another on the charger. If done at the right times, this could theoretically lead to unlimited battery life. It's very nice for long playing sessions using airlink. Admittedly, the batteries don't help very much when I'm playing Beat Saber plugged into my PC, since it takes up the only charging slot. Other than that though, it is a very good choice for games like VRChat.

Programs

I made the list of programs below because it's a resource I wish I had when I started. I could possibly make one big tutorial of my own out of all of the stuff below, but for now, here's everything I used to get started.

VRoid Studio

I create my avatars using VRoid Studio. I learned the basics of how to use it by watching this tutorial. It's the first in a series of tutorials I will talk more about in the VR Chat section.

LIV

I use LIV to put my avatars into Beat Saber. This is easy to do with Vroid avatars since it accepts .vrm files which is the file type that Vroid Studio exports. It's very simple to start using but there still are some important things in this tutorial I watched.

VUP

I have VUP to use my avatar for non vr games. This program also accepts .vrm files. This one is mainly just a preference that I landed on after some research into the programs that VTubers use. Here is the tutorial I used to get started on VUP.

Blender and Unity (Tutorials for VRChat Avatars)

I followed this series of tutorials to make my avatars. They use old versions of both Blender and Unity to get your avatar ready for VRChat. I recommend following them if you want to replicate many of the things I’ve done with my avatar.

OBS

I stream using OBS. For Beat Saber, I use it to combine the LIV avatar output and the game’s default first person view.
